What can shochu be made of?

Shochu can be made from grain, barley, sweet potato, and/or buckwheat. Haamonii Smooth shochu is made from premium grain.

Shochu is not vodka?

Shochu and vodka have similarities in that they are both distilled spirits. Shochu is different from vodka in that shochu contains half the alcohol of hard liquor like vodka for a balanced drinking experience. In addition, shochu has less calories than vodka.

Shochu is not sake?

Sake is brewed like beer. Shochu is distilled like vodka. Sake contains 12-15% alcohol while shochu contains 22% alcohol. Both originate from Japan and are clear in their essential form.

Shochu is not soju?

In general, soju is from Korea, shochu is from Japan. Both are similar, but separated by quality and taste. Haamonii Smooth is ultra premium shochu. More recently however the term shochu and soju have been used interchangeably.

Is shochu healthy?

Although we cannot legally make any claims to the health properties of shochu, research in Japan has shown that shochu has an enzyme that dissolves blood clots – 2X wine, 80% more than sake. Shochu also has less calories than vodka.
