What is Japanese shochu?
Shochu is an ancient Japanese distilled spirit over 400 years old. Shochu is one of the most popular distilled spirits in the world. Shochu has surpassed sake consumption in Japan for the first time in history.
What can shochu be made of?
Shochu can be made from grain, barley, sweet potato, and/or buckwheat. Haamonii Smooth shochu is made from premium grains.
Shochu is not vodka?
Shochu and vodka have similarities in that they are both distilled spirits. Shochu is different from vodka in that shochu contains half the alcohol of hard liquor like vodka for a balanced drinking experience.
Shochu is not sake?
Sake is brewed like beer. Shochu is distilled like vodka. Sake contains 12-15% alcohol while shochu contains 22% alcohol. Both originate from Japan and are clear in their essential form.
Shochu is not soju?
In general, Soju is from Korea, shochu is from Japan. Both are similar, but separated by quality and taste. Haamonii Smooth is ultra premium shochu. More recently however the term shochu and soju have been used interchangeably.
