A balanced fit

The other day the Founder and I went out on our weekly meetings with a few of our customers. After one of the meetings, the Founder mentioned how he liked the Restaurant Manager’s tie. At first glance, the tie didn’t appear to be anything special. The color was a subtle blue with pink polka dots. You could tell the tie was silk…nice lustre and good quality. But that wasn’t what made it stand out.
It was the size of the tie that caught our eye. The tie wasn’t your average sized tie…it was much larger; tied impeccably with a big knot and the perfect dimple. I definitely liked the look, but I wondered if it was it was right for me.
Later that night, I went home and asked a few of the men’s fashion gods…you know who they are (or maybe you don’t)…GQ, Details, and men.style.com. From what I could find, the tie of the hour of was not the big tie we admired on our meet and greet, but a slimmer version. So now I had to ask myself…is it better to be in fashion? Or is it better to wear what you like?
Again, I consulted the gods.
And the gods answered…it’s more important to find the right balance.
Although we would all like to feel like we just stepped off the runway, we all can’t wear the latest fashions. We must face the harsh reality that we’re not all blessed with the physique of a supermodel (or maybe that’s just me). After some time of self reflection, I realized that the thin, narrow ties work best for my small, slender frame. Although I like the look of the big tie with the big knot, it just wouldn’t look right. The big tie would cover my chest and take me out of balance. Lucky for me the tie of the times is thin and narrow. The lesson: the size of the tie should be proportionate to the size of the man.
As in life, it is the same in fashion…you must maintain the right balance. The goal is to remain in Haamonii.
